Antes de usar un mate de calabaza debes curarlo

Before using a gourd mate you must cure it

1. Para empezar, debes dejarlo durante 6 hs con yerba usada (que hayas utilizado antes en otro mate). Únicamente se debe colocar la yerba usada dentro del nuevo mate, SIN agregarle agua adicional.
Intentar que la yerba cubra bien todos los bordes de la calabaza incluido los de la parte superior.
IMPORTANTE: no dejar más de 24 hs la yerba, ya que al ser un producto orgánico, se descompone y genera hongos. De generarse hongos estos son de color blanco, al curar el mate la calabaza se pigmenta de color verde, EL COLOR VERDE EN LA CALABAZA NO INDICA FORMACIÓN DE HONGO

2. Pasadas las 24 hs, se saca la yerba del mate nuevo, sin raspar las paredes.

3. PASO OPCIONAL. Al retirar toda la yerba, se le agrega una pizca de sal, dentro calabaza, y agua hirviendo, hasta el borde superior (sin abarcar la virola metálica).
Revolver durante 1-2 minutos y luego descartar el líquido, absorber los restos de con un papel absorbente.
3. OPTIONAL STEP. After removing all the yerba, add a pinch of salt, inside the gourd, and boiling water, up to the top edge (without covering the metal ferrule).
Stir for 1-2 minutes and then discard the liquid, absorbing the remains with a paper towel.

4. Dejar secar el mate. Una vez seco, realizar los pasos 2 veces.

¿Por qué agregar agua hirviendo con sal?

Why add salt to boiling water?

1. Evita la formación de Hongos.

Podes hacer éste procedimiento en cualquier momento, sin importar el tiempo que tenga el mate.

¿Cómo se cuida un mate?

How do you take care of a mate?

- Evitar que quede líquido dentro de la calabaza, para prevenir la formación de hongos, para esto es necesario secar el mate por dentro (puede ser con un papel absorbente) y dejarlo boca arriba, permitiendo que se ventile.
- No dejar el mate con yerba usada más de 24 hs.
- Únicamente lavarlo con un poco de agua, sólo la parte de la calabaza, para sacarle los restos de yerba. Evitando así que la yerba que queda sobre el mate no se descomponga.
No dejarlo secar boca abajo, menos cuando tiene un poco de líquido dentro, ya que éste caerá sobre la virola y colaborará con una posible oxidación.
- Evitar mojar el cuero que recubre la calabaza y dejarlo al sol directo. Éstos dos provocan que se reseque y se agriete el cuero.
- Evitar golpes, para que la virola no se afloje y para que no se quiebre la calabaza.
- Avoid leaving liquid inside the gourd, to prevent the formation of fungi. To do this, it is necessary to dry the inside of the mate (using absorbent paper) and leave it face up, allowing it to air out.
- Do not leave the mate with used yerba for more than 24 hours.
- Only wash it with a little water, only the gourd part, to remove the remains of yerba. This will prevent the yerba left on the mate from decomposing.
Do not let it dry upside down, especially when it has a little liquid inside, the water can fall on the ferrule and contribute to possible oxidation.
- Avoid wetting the leather that covers the gourd and leaving it in direct sunlight. These two things cause the leather to dry out and crack.
- Avoid knocks, so that the ferrule does not loosen and the gourd does not break.
